Topic: Revolutionary Period Founding Fathers

Description:  Students research a founding father and create a Chatterpix to present their information.

Social Studies TEK:  (3) Research and information fluency. The student acquires and evaluates digital content. The student is expected to: (B) use research skills to build a knowledge base regarding a topic, task, or assignment; and (1) Creativity and innovation. The student uses creative thinking and innovative processes to construct knowledge and develop digital products. The student is expected to: (B) create original products using a variety of resources;

Technology TEK: 1.C use virtual environments to explore systems and issues.

Procedure:

Students choose from one of the following Founding Fathers:

Benjamin Franklin
Paul Revere
Patrick Henry
George Washington
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Paine
James Madison
Nathan Hale

Students use the following research resources:

BrainPop
Newsela
Library Resources

Required information for students to include (see resources):

Background Information –
When were they born?
Where were they from?
Family – Were they married? Did they have kids? etc.
How they contributed to founding America –
Did they help create any important documents?
Did they they fight in the Revolution?
Did they hold any political offices?

Once students have completed their research, they will use the app Chatterpic on an ipad to present their research.  Chatterpix has a limit of 30 seconds, so it may be necessary to make 2 or 3 Chatterpix to completely tell all information.  Students can put their Chatterpix presentations together in iMovie.
