Problem Solving Using Computational Thinking

Grade: 5th grade

Subject:  Math

Topic: Problem Solving

Description:  Students use the steps of computational thinking (decompose, pattern match, abstract, algorithm) to figure out how to play a game that comes with no instructions.

Math TEK:  (1)  Mathematical process standards. The student uses mathematical processes to acquire and demonstrate mathematical understanding. The student is expected to:  (B)  use a problem-solving model that incorporates analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, determining a solution, justifying the solution, and evaluating the problem-solving process and the reasonableness of the solution;

Technology TEK:  (4)  Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. The student applies critical-thinking skills to solve problems, guide research, and evaluate projects using digital tools and resources. The student is expected to: (A)  identify what is known and unknown and what needs to be known regarding a problem and explain the steps to solve the problem;
