Topic: Creating a Google Document to brainstorm, plan and draft a personal narrative

Description: On a Padlet, students will create lists of topics they can write about — favorite place, scary moment, important people, etc. Students then choose one item from the list to do a quick write on a Google Document. Follow-up or sharing option: Students share their draft with two other students using share feature with student number and make positive comments or clarifying questions about the other person’s draft.

TEKS: 5.15 Writing/Writing Process. Students use elements of the writing process (planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) to compose text. Students are expected to: (A) plan a first draft by selecting a genre appropriate for conveying the intended meaning to an audience, determining appropriate topics through a range of strategies (e.g., discussion, background reading, personal interests, interviews), and developing a thesis or controlling idea; 5.17 Writing. Students write about their own experiences. Students are expected to: (A) write a personal narrative that conveys thoughts and feelings about an experience.

Tech TEKS: 5.2 (A)  draft, edit, and publish products in different media individually and collaboratively; 5.2 (C)  collaborate effectively through personal learning communities and social environments; 5.5  Digital citizenship. The student practices safe, responsible, legal, and ethical behavior while using digital tools and resources. The student is expected to: (A) adhere to acceptable use policies reflecting positive social behavior in the digital environment; (D) protect and honor the individual privacy of oneself and others; (E)  follow the rules of digital etiquette.
