Description: Teacher creates a google form to survey students. Students will answer form, then look at data as a class to create a digital graph. Extension: Students create own google form and survey class. They can then create their own graph.    **Note: See your ITS if you are unfamiliar with how to create a google form.

TEKS:  Math 3.8A  summarize a data set with multiple categories using a frequency table, dot plot, pictograph, or bar graph with scaled intervals.

TA TEKS 3. Information fluency The student acquires and evaluates digital content (B) collect and organize information from a variety of formats, including text, audio, video, and graphics; (C) validate and evaluate the relevance and appropriateness of information; and (D) acquire information appropriate to specific tasks. 4. Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.  The student applies critical thinking skills to solve problems, guide research, and evaluate projects using digital tools and resources. (B) collect, analyze, and represent data to solve problems using tools such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphic organizers, charts, multimedia, simulations, models, and programming languages;

Lesson Procedures:

  1. Teacher creates a google form with one question to survey students. Ex: What month is your birthday?
  2. Students answer the question on the form.
  3. Together as a class discuss data recorded.
  4. Together create an online graph with data collected. Online Bar Graph Maker
  5. Discuss outcomes/results. Ex: Which month had the most? How many more in June than July? Etc.

*Extension:

  1. Students can create their own form and survey students.
  2. Students can create own graph to show data collected.
  3. Students can survey another classroom/school. Google Hangout/Skype could be used to to discuss findings.

Extension: Students can share their link to their surveys by:

  1. Teacher creates a form for students to add their survey link and then share the results to the class.
  2. Students can open their survey on a computer and students can rotate around the room completing the surveys.
  3. Students could create QR codes with their links and students could access the surveys through the QR codes.
