Stimulus & Response with Ozobots

Grade: 7th

Subject:  Science

Topic: Stimulus & Response

Description: Students use varying colored paths for Ozobots to simulate change in environment and what the Ozobots do to adapt to the new environment.

Science  TEKs:

7.2B design and implement experimental investigations by making observations, asking well defined questions, formulating testable hypotheses, and using appropriate equipment and technology;

Technology TEK:

4.  Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. The student makes informed decisions by applying critical-thinking and problem – solving skills.  The student is expected to: (C)  collect and analyze data to identify solutions and make informed decisions;solving skills.

Procedure:

Students will investigate how organisms adapt to stimulus. Then they will use Ozobots (See your ITS to get some if your campus does not have any.)  to represent an organism. Students use colored markers to ‘program’ the Ozobots to tell them when to change paths, or colors, or make sounds.  They may make several paths to investigate the changes that the robots make according to the stimulus.

Alternatively, students may use the chromebooks or laptops to visual program the Ozobots. (https://ozoblockly.com/?_ga=2.153487740.554650715.1555078383-1132234067.1555078383)

4Cs: Critical Thinking

Device Type: none needed, but you can use laptops or chromebooks for visual programming.

ISTE Standards: Knowledge Constructor : Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others.
