Observing Soil with Digital Microscopes

Grade: 3rd

Subject: Science

Topic: Observing Soil with Digital Microscopes

Description: Using digital microscopes, students can zoom in on earth science and capture images to include in their findings. Students observe soil samples with their eyes, hand lenses, and digital microscopes and compare what the similarities and differences were between the three ways of looking at the soil. Observations can be recorded using iPad video or Google Docs / Slides.

Science TEKS: 3.7A Explore and record how soils are formed by weathering of rocks and the decomposition of plant and animal remains

Technology TEKS:   (6) Technology operations and concepts.  (C) navigate systems and applications accessing peripherals both locally and remotely; (4) Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. (B)  collect, analyze, and represent data to solve problems using tools such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphic organizers, charts, multimedia, simulations, models, and programming languages.
