Exploring Graphs using Excel or Google Sheets

Subject: Math

Topic: Exploring Graphs

Description: Students will be given a specific survey topics based on the topics being studied in class. Students will then collect data, either from classmates, other classrooms, etc. Using this data, they will fill out their data charts on the graphing templates in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. As the students input the data, the corresponding graph will fill in. Students will then print out and present their graphs to the rest of the class. The teacher can chose for the students to create their own questions for the other students to answer based upon the data from their graph, or have the whole class create questions for the graph.

Math TEK: 1.8A Collect, sort, and organize data in up to three categories using models/representations such as tally marks or T-charts, 1.8B Use data to create picture and bar-type graphs, 1.8C Draw conclusions and generate and answer questions using information from picture and bar-type graphs

Technology TEK: 4D  Collect, analyze, and represent data using tools such as word processing, spreadsheets, graphic organizers, charts, multimedia, simulations, models, and programming languages.
